So last night, after saying to myself, no I am not going to watch it. I watched it!
I am talking the Golden Globes.
I did not watch it to check out the over rated egotistical ‘actors’ or to see what they are wearing. They could go down the red carpet in a bathrobe and slippers for all I care!
No, I wanted to watch it to see the hype about Ricky Gervais.
*Just in case you are not aware, I am a UK resident, hence why it was on TV last night*
Yesterday morning, as I was getting the kids sorted out for school, I put on the morning news. And the major headlines (*insert eye roll*) was Ricky Gervais and the uproar about his gags at the Golden Globe.
So I watched….
The big deal was what exactly? He made a few gags, I laughed out loud at the Robert Downey Jr one after introducing his films, including Iron Man, Kiss, Kiss, (Bang, Bang) and Two Girls And A Guy, sounded like porn. Then went on to say
“Many of you probably know him from the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail,”
I laughed hard when he introduced Bruce Willis as ‘Ashton Kutcher’s Dad’
There were many more hilarious quotes from Ricky on the night, and as I watched it nothing made my toes curl.
And to be honest, I don’t see any evidence of the US being in an uproar about it (as stated by a media reporter on the breakfast show I was watching)
I know the British and US humour can be very different, I see that the UK humour can be a bit dry, and comedians here can often say what they want. US comedy, I find can be censored for whatever reason, so I am thinking that this could have been the problem?…….Or, is it the actors are so stuck up themselves it would be so uncouth for them to laugh at themselves?
I don’t think Ricky should be the one to suffer for Sunday night. The organisers of the Globes would have, should have known what type of comedic that Ricky is. He holds no boundaries, he always goes for the jugular, so if the actors took offence to him, ‘go cry me a river elsewhere’ Or better still, go grow a pair of globes!
